A day in Herne Bay |UK|
Let’s go to another nice seafront in Kent, really close to Whitstable and Canterbury. Here it is, Herne Bay.
Perfect place for a day trip where you can just walk along the coast and find nice cafès, pubs, fish&chips bars, ice-cream kiosks and a pier of course.
As usual for the typical British seaside lots of pastel coloured houses give onto the coastline. And while I was walking and taking lots of pictures I was wondering why they are so coloured. Well, I’ve found out that the houses were painted so that returning fishermen could recognise their homes. True or not I like it, it’s reasonable.
Even the beach huts pop with their bright colours!
While slowly walking, then, don’t be surprised if you’ll find yourself thinking of being in Greece, this clock tower with its whitness and classical references almost looks like an ancient Greek temple.
Loved the houses that front onto the seaside, here are two of my favourites….
…but to me the most striking piece was this Art-Decò Style house, I really wish I could have had a look inside! Its regular and geometrical shape, the slim pillars, the rounded windows, the front door and the balcony are all naval recalls that really suit with the house location.
So surely worth a visit but just for a day or even a stop if you’re driving along the coast, even though I have to say that I liked Whitstable more, I was admiring every single house there, I could smell fresh sea-food and the walk along the sea is lovely . What do you think? Do you agree with me?
